Liz Green

Born in 1964 in Chiswick, West London, Liz Green grew up in a home filled with salvaged raw materials. All family holidays were on a small farm in Cornwall and it is there she developed her strong affinity for plants and landscape. She completed a degree in Botany and had a career working with conservation and environmental groups. She went on to become a full- time painter in 2011 and has had regular solo exhibitions throughout the UK.

ARTIST STATEMENT:  ‘’I am a self-taught artist. My background working outdoors has honed my eye for colour, patterns of form and light, ‘sense of place’, landscape history and it is these qualities that inspire me to paint. I work in acrylics and mixed media on a variety of surfaces. My work includes both realistic detail and stylised abstraction at differing scales that emphasise pattern to conjure the essence of place. I work from a mixture of outdoor sketches, found objects, photographs, memory and imagination.’’

Liz has lived in Inverness since 2003 and has explored The Highlands extensively.  The woodlands, hills and coast in all their differing moods are a constant source of inspiration for her artwork.
