Jane Marshall
Jane Marshall designs and makes individual jewellery items using traditional metals - sterling silver and copper - and kiln fired vitreous enamels. There is an emphasis on colour and texture and due to the materials and the traditional methods of working, each piece is unique. Colour is introduced using copper and vitreous enamel which is formulated by fusing powdered glass to a substrate by firing in a kiln. The powder melts, flows and then hardens to form a smooth, durable, vitreous coating.
ARTIST STATEMENT: "I enjoy the challenge of designing and creating each unique piece of silver jewellery and the satisfaction of seeing someone pleased to wear my work. I am always learning and experimenting with new techniques and incorporating them in my designs to create pieces that are different and individual. Inspired by the world around me, both natural and created, I especially enjoy incorporating texture and contrast provided by using other metals such as copper and brass in my work".
Jane's jewellery is designed to be wearable every day, but is still dramatic enough for special occasions.
