Early Spring Collection
The Early Spring Collection features a wide range of vibrant new landscape and seascape paintings by Colin Carruthers, who has been exhibiting here in Birmingham since Purple Gallery opened in April 2005. As viewers of art, we tend to naturally focus on an artist's finished work - but some painting techniques draw our attention to the artist's process. Impasto is one of these techniques. Colin creates textured surfaces by applying paint to the canvas as thickly as possible. The oil paint dries slowly, allowing him to build layers in which the marks of the palette knife are often still visible - creating interesting and dramatic effects.
The Spring Show opens on Saturday 13th February and continues until Saturday 24th April 2016 and will also feature original prints, created using traditional printmaking methods along with other artwork by established gallery artists.
