Alison Read
Alison Read's art-world is populated by mad-cap, quirky animals from hairy hares named 'Elvis' to 'Bonnie and Clyde' the cows. Specialising in hand-made original prints using linocut, screen printing, woodcut and etching. She was brought up on a farm, she studied art at Newcastle University before running the Printmaking Workshop at Lincoln University for a decade, where she also completed her MA Degree before becoming a full-time artist.
Artist Statement "I love all forms of printmaking. I like the hands on nature of producing a plate and its immediacy. I don't keep highly detailed sketchbooks . . I think this is why my images are quirky".
Her prints are full of circus hilarity, fun, humour, possibility and above all else, sophisticated , jolly characters, all mainly 4 legged creatures… many an Ostrich wearing a feather boa…
