Lawrence Gibson

Lawrence Gibson was brought up in a hamlet near the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall. He gained a National Diploma in Art and Design from Falmouth School of Art in 1991 and gained a First Class Degree with Honours in Industrial Design from Cardiff Institute of H.E. in 1994.

Lawrence makes ocean-inspired jewellery made with Pewter and resin. New forms are created through inspiration from the U.K. coast, its beautiful covers and beaches, fishing harbours and surf culture.  Each handmade piece of jewellery is produced using a base metal of high quality UK sourced Pewter.  The initial forms are sculpted and then moulded to produce duplicates of the originals. The Pewter used is 93% Tin (all re-cycled) and completely Lead and Nickel-free. Many of the designs incorporate coloured resin detail which starts as a pure, clear liquid to which colour is added. The resin is then either dropped into the Pewter casting or made as a separate piece to be incorporated into the design. Several pieces also feature beads, which are carefully selected and ethically sourced from fair trade suppliers.
